The Knowledge Network on Climate Assemblies (KNOCA) aims to improve the commissioning, design, implementation and impact of climate assemblies, using evidence, knowledge exchange and dialogue. We are an active community of policy makers, practitioners, activists, researchers and other actors with experience and interest in climate assemblies who co-create activities and knowledge.
Can Citizen Deliberation Address the Climate Crisis?
In a recent blog, “Can citizen deliberation address the climate crisis? Not if it is disconnected from politics and policy making”, John Boswell, Rikki Dean and Graham Smith argue that greater attention needs to be paid to how assemblies are integrated into the world of politics and policy making. While climate assemblies tend to share similar internal characteristics, the way they are connected to political institutions, policy processes, stakeholders and the media varies markedly, helping to explain their very different impacts.
The blog summarises a longer academic article, “Integrating citizen deliberation into climate governance: lessons on robust design from six climate assemblies”, published in the journal Public Administration.
