June 9, 2026

The Porirua Citizens’ Assembly on Climatewas the world’s first Indigenous- and treaty-led climate assembly held in Aotearoa New Zealand. As a community-led project it introduced a series of innovations to the standard assembly design, as well as offering valuable lessons to others seeking to uphold Indigenous authority within public deliberation.

The public report of the project has beenreleased via the Indigenous iwi’s website. The project’s other resources, including a toolkit and Community of Practice recordings are available here.
